ARLINGTON, VA (April 9, 2020) – FLARE, an amenity electric shuttle service, is working with the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization (CPRO) to deliver lunch for Virginia Hospital Center staff on Friday, April 10 and Friday, April 17.
“We are eager to continue to serve the Arlington community during our country’s fight against COVID-19 by delivering lunch to those at Virginia Hospital Center who are so selflessly caring for our community,” said FLARE CEO Andres Delgado.
“We are working to adapt our service in order to best serve the community around us. That is how this partnership with the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization came about, and we are glad to play a part in helping hospital workers who are putting their lives on the line for the rest of us. We are honored to serve them. This is a time for businesses and the community members to work together,” Delgado added.
The first lunches to be delivered by Flare this Friday, April 10, will be prepared by Café Sazón. The restaurant had actually made the decision to close completely on March 22 and will be opening this Friday solely to provide the lunches for VHC.
“When a resident came to us for advice on launching a fundraiser to donate food to hospital staff, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to also provide funds directly to our local restaurants. We immediately wanted to use Café Sazón and ensure that they could have some income since closing, no matter how small or temporary. With more locally and immigrant owned restaurants on Columbia Pike than any other corridor in the County, we feel it is important to find any way we can to help see them through this crisis,” said Stephen Gregory Smith, CPRO Program Director.
“While we are devastated to see our local businesses and residents suffering, we are heartened by the fact that the Columbia Pike community has come together in so many wonderful ways to support each other. We will be forever grateful for Flare’s partnership and for the overwhelming support of our community members who have donated so generously to this initiative,” added Amanda Lovins, CPRO Communications and Fundraising Coordinator.
FLARE, in partnership with the Crystal City Civic Association and Crystal City Business Improvement District, is also currently collecting and transporting food donations for the Arlington Food Assistance Center in 10 apartment buildings in Crystal City through April 30.
Recently, FLARE partnered with the Aurora Heights and Crystal City Civic Associations, and delivered over 800 lbs. of food for the Arlington Food Assistance Center.
